This lesson, featuring Karen McWilliams, a 504 Coordinator and Dyslexia Teacher in Rochelle ISD in Texas, supports educators in using technology to teach foundational reading skills to students in elementary grades. During this virtual literacy lesson, students engage in a variety of facilitated activities to support phonemic awareness, phoneme–grapheme correspondence, irregular and high-frequency words, writing, and connected text. Educators may present this lesson to students one-on-one or in a small group. The templates were adapted from content developed by the University of Florida Literacy Institute to support educators implementing virtual instruction. The collection includes a tip sheet, a video examples, and slides illustrating the lesson.

This lesson features Carla Jo Whatley, a First Grade Teacher at Ferris Intermediate in Ferris ISD in Texas. In the lesson she illustrates how to use virtual manipulatives within a math lesson. These manipulatives allow educators and students to engage in the Concrete-Representational-Abstract approach without having the physical materials in front of them. For some educators, switching between platforms has been challenging. This lesson can be used synchronously or asynchronously, does not require using multiple platforms, and allows educators to apply the features of interactive base ten blocks. The collection includes a tip sheet, two video examples, and slides with virtual base ten block practice examples.
This module focuses on intervention programs in reading, including how they support students and teachers and how to evaluate intervention program materials and research evidence.
This is the first module in a series of modules about intensive intervention in reading. There are two parts in this module that answer the questions (1) why is intensive intervention in reading important? and (2) how does data-based individualization (DBI) apply to reading?
This training module, Using the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity to Select, Design, and Intensify Intervention, introduces the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity and describes how it supports the DBI process by helping provide explicit guidance on how to select and evaluate validated intervention programs to best meet students’ needs and intensify or adapt those interventions when students or groups of students do not adequately respond. At the end of the training participants will be able to:
The purpose of this guide is to provide an overview of behavioral progress monitoring and goal setting to inform data-driven decision making within tiered support models and individualized education programs (IEPs).
Intensive Intervention in Reading Course: Module 7 Overview This module provides strategies on how to adapt comprehension instruction to improve instructional modeling, provide practice opportunities, elicit frequent responses, and give effective feedback. This module is divided into two parts with an introduction and closing. A 508 compliant version of the full PowerPoint presentation across all parts of the module, a version of the PowerPoint that includes all the animations, and a workbook is available below.
Intensive Intervention in Reading Course: Module 6 Overview This module provides strategies on how to adapt word reading instruction to improve instructional modeling, student practice, and approaches to giving feedback. This module is divided into three parts with an introduction. A 508 compliant version of the full PowerPoint presentation across all parts of the module, a version of the PowerPoint that includes all the animations, and a workbook is available below.
This module provides an overview of diagnostic assessments, using error analysis with CBMs, developing and using curriculum-based assessments (CBAs), and integrating diagnostic and progress monitoring data to inform instructional adaptations.
Intensive Intervention in Reading Course: Module 4 Overview This module provides an overview of data-based individualization (DBI), including using CBM measures, how to present level of performance and set student goals, and use data to make instructional decisions. This module is divided into five parts with an introduction and closing. A 508 compliant version of the full PowerPoint presentation across all parts of the module, a version of the PowerPoint that includes all the animations, and a workbook is available below.
