This rubric uses descriptors of the dimensions of the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity to support teams in selecting and evaluating validated interventions for small groups or individual students.
This training module introduces the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity and describes how it supports the DBI process by helping provide explicit guidance on how to select and evaluate validated reading intervention programs to best meet students’ needs and intensify or adapt those interventions when students or groups of students do not adequately respond.
This training module introduces the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity and describes how it supports the DBI process by helping provide explicit guidance on how to select and evaluate validated mathematics intervention programs to best meet students’ needs and intensify or adapt those interventions when students or groups of students do not adequately respond.
This presentation was delivered by Dr. Tessie Rose Bailey as part of the Colorado Multi-Tiered System of Support Virtual Summit 2020. In the presentation, Dr. Bailey focused on considerations for providing virtual intervention and progress monitoring and highlights resources developed by the National Center on Intensive Intervention. This training module, Using the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity to Select, Design, and Intensify Intervention, introduces the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity and describes how it supports the DBI process by helping provide explicit guidance on how to select and evaluate validated intervention programs to best meet students’ needs and intensify or adapt those interventions when students or groups of students do not adequately respond. At the end of the training participants will be able to:
This two page handout defines the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity through guiding questions and highlights when the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity can be used within the data-based individualization (DBI) process. Teams can use the dimensions to evaluate a current intervention, select a new intervention and intensify interventions when students do not respond.
In this webinar, Dr. Sarah Powell an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Texas at Austin highlights freely available tools and resources that can help educators consider a scope and sequence for math skills, assessment and intervention practices, instructional delivery, concepts and procedures for whole and rational numbers, intensification considerations, and more. The webinar reviews the content available from the Intensive Intervention Math Course Content. The course content consists of eight modules covering a range of math related topics. Each module includes video lessons, activities, knowledge checks, practice-based opportunities, coaching materials and other resources.
This series of videos provides brief instructional examples for supporting students who need intensive instruction in the area of fractions. Within college- and career-ready standards fractions are typically taught in Grades 3-5. Developing an understanding of fractions as numbers includes part/whole relationship, number on the number line, equivalent fractions, whole numbers as fractions, and comparing fractions These videos may be used as these concepts are introduced, or with students in higher grade levels who continue to struggle with the concepts. Special education teachers, math interventionists, and others working with struggling students may find these videos helpful.
Support from leaders is essential for effective DBI implementation. This resource illustrates how DBI can help principals and local level administrators leverage existing resources, integrate supports for academics and behavior, define Tier 3, align special education and MTSS, establish effective data meetings, and improve outcomes for students who are at-risk for poor learning outcomes. In addition, the resource shares strategies and resources available to support implementation
