The first module in the Intensive Intervention Math Course Content focuses on the mathematics content necessary to include within intensive intervention. This includes matching decisions about instruction and assessment to the mathematics content.
This module focuses on behavioral theory and is an introduction to observing and measuring behavior. By the end of this module, you should be able to: Describe the rationale and importance of behavior support Define and identify elements of basic behavioral theory including three-term contingency, reinforcement, punishment and extinction Define and describe the function of behavior
In this video, Dr. Lynn Fuchs, Nicholas Hobbs Professor of Special Education and Human Development at Vanderbilt University and Senior Advisor to the National Center on Intensive Intervention, shares advice for teachers who are implementing intensive interventions with students who are not showing progress.
This video demonstrates how to use fraction tiles to explore how fractions such as 4/4 are equivalent to 1. Before fractions are introduced in the curriculum, students use integers, which only have one value associated with the numeral or number word. Fractions may be the first time that students are introduced to the possibility that the same quantity can be represented with different representations, such as one whole and four fourths. Using models allows students to practice finding equivalent fractions, which is a prerequisite skill for performing computation with fractions.
In this video, Dr. Sharon Vaughn, Senior Advisor to the National Center on Intensive Intervention and the Executive Director of The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk, defines intervention platform.
In this video, Dr. Rebecca Zumeta Edmonds, Co-Director of NCII discusses how screening tools can provide a more accurate measure of at-risk students within the context of a multi-tiered system of supports.
In this video, Dr. Rebecca Zumeta Edmonds, Co-Director of NCII, discusses what to consider when a goal set for a student proves to be unrealistic.
Why do we need to ensure we have multiple parallel or equated forms when measuring student progress?
In this video, Lee Branum-Martin, Associate Professor at Georgia State University explains why we need to ensure we have multiple parallel or equated forms when measuring student progress.
In this video, Dr. Steve Goodman, Director of Michigan's Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative, discusses the benefits of embedding intensive intervention within a multi-tiered system of support.
