Using Manipulatives to Illustrate Multiplication
This video shows how manipulatives can be used to explain that multiplication represents groups of equal sets of numbers. This example demonstrates how manipulatives can be used with repeated addition or skip counting strategies to solve multiplication problems. When students have many practice opportunities to solve multiplication problems with strategies such as arrays, they develop a solid conceptual understanding that multiplication represents groups of an equivalent number.
