Representing 8 – 5 with Objects
Representing 8 – 5 with Objects
This video shows how manipulatives can be used to explain subtraction using a part-part-whole structure. This example has a known whole (i.e., 8), one known part (i.e., 5), and one unknown part (i.e., the answer). Students can use manipulatives and counting strategies to develop an understanding for subtraction and begin to develop fluency with basic facts.
