Question: How has your district emphasized a systems approach as you work to integrate DBI into schools?

Answer: We are fortunate in Swartz Creek Michigan that we have years of experience with MiBLSi (Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative) and that helped us with our systems and creating a system.

What we have done is with the work with NCII has helped with our systems approach in implementing DBI. It has been creating a MTSS pre-k through 12th grade team-meeting that we meet monthly as a whole district and we meet individually within each building. With that concept it has helped create an opportunity for us to take a look at the data take a look at information that we have that is working well or not working well.

We also talk about celebrations. We can’t forget about the positive things that are happening. With that, our systems approach that we have, we have created a three-year plan. We celebrate the success. We celebrate little things, also the large things. We also take a look at the idea of looking at DBI along with our tiered intervention, RTI or MTSS format.

That’s helped us with our fidelity and the implementation. Through the help with NCII we have beefed up our interventions, specifically around the fidelity portion and making sure that we are keeping things consistent.
