Counting to 7
Counting to 7
This video illustrates the use of manipulatives to provide students with multiple opportunities to practice counting skills such as rote counting, correspondence, and cardinality. When students have mastered the verbal counting sequence and understand the stable order of numbers, they should receive multiple practice opportunities to apply counting skills to a set of objects. This will allow students to develop an understanding of the relation between spoken word names and quantity. Counting objects in many different ways also allows students to practice tracking objects as the objects are counted to make sure that each object is counted once and only once, regardless of the order in which the objects are counted.
