This webinar was presented by Dr. Lori Newcomer on February 27, 2013. It provided an overview of the key features of behavioral support systems and explained the importance and rationale behind these features.  Dr. Newcomer discussed the implications of these components for meeting the needs of students at the tier 3 or intensive level and walked through a “Needs Assessment” document that can be used in various ways (self-assessment, interview, ect.) to examine a school’s behavioral support system and target areas for improvement.

Dr. Newcomer is a Research Scientist at the University of Missouri where she conducts research that focuses on the prevention of challenging behavior and that emphasizes the identification and development of appropriate school environments to promote pro-social behavior. In addition, she has worked in various capacities on numerous research and service delivery projects including the Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the National Center on Intensive Intervention (NCII), and has played a key role in providing technical assistance and training for the development of local and state behavior initiatives to train and support schools in behavior assessment procedures and positive behavior support at the primary, secondary and tertiary level across the United States, Australia and Canada.
