In Memory of Dr. Lynn S. Fuchs

With deep sadness and immense gratitude, the National Center on Intensive Intervention (NCII) honors the life and legacy of Dr. Lynn S. Fuchs, a brilliant researcher, patient mentor, and unwavering champion for students with disabilities.

Lynn served as a senior advisor to NCII from its inception 14 years ago participating in the initial conceptualization of the Center's proposal and guiding its ongoing implementation. Using research as her guide, Lynn’s thoughtful leadership helped establish the framework of principles and practices that laid the foundation for the Center’s work. Lynn shaped the very core of NCII —guiding how we support educators to use data-based individualization, conduct progress monitoring, and deliver intensive intervention grounded in evidence. Her fingerprints are on almost every tool, training, and resource we have developed.  

Lynn’s influence wasn’t confined to strategy or research. She approached this work with a fierce intellect and nuanced understanding of the real-world needs of educators and the students they serve. Her commitment ensured that students with the most significant learning needs received not just intervention —but the right supports, delivered in the right way, at the right time. Everything we do at NCII is stronger, wiser, and more humane because of her.  It is an impossible task to capture the essence of someone so admired as Lynn Fuchs. However, the fortunate who worked with her know the depth of her kindness, her willingness to impart knowledge, and her steadfast belief in the mission of NCII. For that, and countless other reasons, we are better because of Lynn.
