Joseph Wehby

Joseph Wehby, Ph.D. is Chair of Vanderbilt’s Department of Special Education, and he is an experienced special education researcher. He has been PI of numerous research grants where randomized controlled trials and single subject design studies have been used to investigate the efficacy of a variety of practices that integrate academic strategies, data-based instruction, and methods to address behavioral problems in classrooms. He has served as the director on numerous OSEP funded leadership and masters personnel preparation grants. Dr. Wehby currently directs that National Center for Leadership on Intensive Intervention-2 (NCLII), a doctoral training consortium, focused on training scholars in intensive intervention for students with complex learning and behavior difficulties. Dr. Wehby received an Affirmative Action Award from the Development Center at Vanderbilt University for promoting disability awareness on campus and was named as the 2014 Vanderbilt Chancellor’s Cup Recipient for contributions to students outside the classroom. He also received the 2015 Council for Exceptional Children’s Career Research Award and the 2019 Midwest Symposium for Leadership in Behavior Disorders, Outstanding Leadership Award.
